Pakistan Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Resigns
Pakistan’s bowling performance at the 2023 World Cup was a major reason for their early elimination from the competition. Their failure to take wickets was an obvious problem that prevented them from winning, especially in the middle overs. The two most ineffectual bowlers in the match were Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, who combined to take just two wickets in the whole affair. Because of the circumstances in India, where using spin to exploit the middle overs is frequently essential for dominating the game, this lack of influence from the spin department was particularly harmful.
The pace attack, which was regarded as extremely strong, encountered difficulties as well. Even though he finished with 18 wickets in nine games, Shaheen Afridi lacked his typical aggression in the beginning exchanges, in part because his favorite new-ball partner Naseem Shah was out by injury. Another worry was Haris Rauf’s performance; although he has been a devastating T20 bowler, the World Cup showed that he is still developing in the 50-over category. He was less efficient against hitters because of his fast tempo and lack of mobility.
Rauf would become the most costly bowler in a single World Cup season after giving up more than 500 runs in nine different games.
The team’s poor bowling selection was highlighted by their preference for part-timers like Iftikhar Ahmed over their primary spinner, vice-skipper Shadab.
PCB said that Morkel has resigned from his position and that a replacement will be revealed when appropriate in a statement posted on their official website.
“Morne Morkel has left his position as the Pakistan men’s team’s bowling coach. In June of this year, the former fast bowler from South Africa signed a six-month contract to join the Pakistani team. The men’s team’s journey to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series was Morkel’s maiden assignment with the team.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board will announce his successor soon. The next assignment for Pakistan is a three-match Test series against Australia, which is slated to occur in Australia from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024.”
