When Farid Khan’s humorous posts reappeared online, Indian cricket fans laughed and were taken aback. Many people are confused by the Pakistani journalist’s attempt to advocate for a boycott of India’s cricket matches, especially when the World Cup 2023 is still going on. Considering that India is hosting the World Cup and that Indian cricket fans’ passion knows no bounds, the idea makes me laugh.
Thanks to the sizable Indian diaspora dispersed throughout the world, the stadiums would be packed with supporters even if the matches weren’t played in India. Indian fans, regardless of the opposition, fervently support their side.
This was demonstrated at India vs. Ireland series earlier this year, as Indian supporters gathered to see their beloved side, even though some of the key players were rested. This kind of unrelenting support makes it seem absurd to boycott a World Cup match, much less a game involving India.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged an official protest on the purportedly inappropriate conduct of Indian supporters during the World Cup match between India and Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium. India emerged victorious in this match.
Farid Khan’s statement on World Cup 2023:
Farid Khan quips jokingly in one of his latest posts, “Don’t anger me! If Elon Musk and the ICB/Apex Council were to boycott the match between India and Bangladesh, would that have the same effect on revenue? I apologise, but I’m not really sorry. However, Indian cricket fans have reacted to this post with a mix of laughter and confusion, since many don’t believe that a single tweet can have such a big impact on the Apex Cricket Council and Indian Cricket Board’s earnings.”
The laughter has increased even further in response to Farid Khan’s claims and calls for an apology in his posts. Within the cricketing community, Indian cricket players and Team India make up the biggest and most prominent fan base. As a result, Khan’s attempt to boycott India’s matches and the resulting financial consequences seem more absurd than genuine.
India’s cricket fans are still incredibly passionate about their team, so the idea of a boycott is ludicrous and unlikely to materialise. Even though they are entertaining, Farid Khan’s posts cannot lessen the steadfast devotion and ardour of Indian cricket fans.
