Batsman Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand continued his incredible run in a Cricket World Cup 2023 encounter between Australia and New Zealand. With Ravindra scoring 116 off 89 balls, New Zealand had a good chance of reaching the 389-run goal, but the Australians prevailed despite a heroic last stand by Jimmy Neesham. In addition to his mid-performance, Rachin was questioned about his “Indian roots” and the affection he felt from the audience during the press conference. New Zealand Rachin Ravindra Speaks About His Indian Roots
Rachin was questioned about the strain of playing in India due to his Indian ancestry during the press conference held following New Zealand’s defeat by Australia.
“I guess people ask me this question a lot, but I guess I’m proud of my Indian heritage and I’m 100% Kiwi. I believe it’s a source of pride to be able to accomplish it in the country where my parents were born, reared, and where a sizable component of my family still resides. But I think the batting conditions are good and that my ability to travel to India on tours in the past has helped me to work on getting better rather than getting perfect at what I do. That has to be useful in some way,” Ravindra replied.
Given that Dharamsala was a “neutral venue” for the Kiwis, Rachin was also questioned about the support he received from the locals there.
“In fact, I think this was one of the best audiences we have ever played to in India. Throughout the game, the crowd’s excitement and response were really impressive. It was wonderful to watch the crowd sing your name multiple times, even during Australia’s batting innings and Nish Neesham’s heroics at the end, as it was something you had dreamed doing as a child,” said Rachin.
“You kind of absorb in those moments, and ideally, we never really take them for granted, so I think it’s always wonderful,” he remarked.
New Zealand is fit enough to make it to the 2023 Cricket World Cup semi-finals despite the defeat.
