India defeated Nepal comfortably in their second game of the 2018 Asia Cup, advancing to the ‘Super 4’ stage. However, following the game, a video of Team India players Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and head coach Rahul Dravid handing out medals to Nepal cricketers went viral. Now, Nepal’s Aasif Sheikh has something to say.
Aasif Sheikh, who made 58 runs off 97 balls, was presented with a medal by Kohli. During that time, though, he engaged in some amusing banter with Sheikh, which the Nepal batter has now shared in an interview. “It was a proud feeling to receive the medal from Virat Kohli, he joked, give the medal to me as well as I dropped your catch,” he remarked.
When Sheikh was on one run, Kohli dropped a routine catch at short cover. He then proceeded to score 58 runs. However, Mohammed Siraj only grabbed his wicket once, and that time, Virat Kohli hit a one-handed stunner at short cover. In the game, Nepal batted first and scored 230 runs. However, due to rain, India was ordered to chase 145 runs in 23 overs, which they achieved in 20.1 overs with all 10 wickets in hand.
Nepal’s Aasif Sheikh on Virat:
Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel remarked after the game, “Our openers did a very good job for us. We could have done better in the middle order. We were maybe 30-40 minutes short. We could have gotten 260-270 if we had done better in that phase. Our lower order has done an outstanding job over the previous 4-5 months, and we are quite proud of them. I believe the dew made it difficult in these conditions, but our bowlers performed admirably. It was their maiden appearance in this prestigious competition, but it proved to be a valuable learning experience after facing two cricketing superpowers, Pakistan and India.”
The game was shortened to 23 overs after the first innings due to rain. The game was won by the former champions by a margin of ten wickets. Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma both got fifties as the team reached the mark in 20.1 overs. As a result, India has advanced to the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Following the game, Indian players presented the medal to their Asian counterparts.
