Won Gold Medal in U20 Championships in 2016
Neeraj Chopra started climbing the ladder of success right from a tender age. He set a new U20 record at the World U20 Championships in 2016 with a massive 86.48m throw. The huge throw helped him to achieve a gold medal & beat the 84.69m mark set by Latvia’s Zigismnds Sirmais.
His massive throw at Bydgoszcz still remains unchallenged with his U20 World Record & U20 Asian record in javelin throw still remaining intact.
2) Winning Gold Medal in CWG 2018
Records & Neeraj Chopra goes hand in hand as one of his major achievement was winning a Godl Medal at CWG 2018. With this feat, he became the first Indian javelin Thrower to win a gold medal at CWG. He was also the fourth Indian athlete to win the title at the prestigious CWG after Mikha Singh (1958), Krishna Poonia (2010) & Vikar Gowda (2014).
3) Grabbing Gold in 2018 at Asian Games, Jakarta
Adding to Neeraj Chopra achievements list is a gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. With a huge throw of 88.06, Neeraj became the first Indian to win a Gold at the Asian Games. His efforts helped him to etch his name in the national records book.
4) Winning Gold in the Tokyo Olympics 2021
A life-changing moment in Neeraj Chopra’s life came during the Tokyo Olympics 2021 when he became the only second Indian to win a gold medal in the history of the Olympics. Neeraj scripted history when he threw a javelin which touched the mark of 87.58 meters, guiding him to the pinnacle of success with a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The historic triumph made Neeraj the first Indian track & field athlete to win a medal at the marquee event.
5) Winner of Lausanne Diamond League in 2022
Neeraj’s breathtaking achievement came when he became the first Indian to win the Diamond League meet. The event happened in Lausanne in 2022 when confident & prolific Neeraj opened the league. Right on his first attempt, he created a mark for himself by throwing the javelin to a distance of 89.09m. his standout performance came during the final of the Javelin men’s Event in the Diamond League Meet 2022.
His exceptional display helped him to grab a spot in the Diamond League Final along with a qualification for the World Athletics Championships in 2023.
6) Winning the Diamond League Champion Finals in 2022
Back in September 2022, there came a proud moment for Neeraj Chopra & all the Indians who achieved another milestone by becoming the first athlete to win a Diamond League trophy after the Zurich Diamond League 2022 Final.
Neeraj won the medal by throwing a javelin at a distance of 88.44 meters which helped him to secure a win over Jakub Vadlejch who was a silver medalist in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
7) Winning a Silver at World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022
Neeraj’s legacy continued when the star javelin thrower added one more prestigious accolade to his kitty. Neeraj Chopra scripted history by winning a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 held in Oregon, USA.
He did that with a swashbuckling throw of 88.39m mark in the qualification round & later in the final he won a silver medal with his best throw of 88.13m. With this feat, Neeraj also became the first Indian to win a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships. It was due to the prolific javelin thrower’s effort that India won their first medal in 19 years. The previous medal was won by long jumper Anju Bobby George who secured bronze at Paris 2003.
8) A Gold medal in the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest
And finally ending the gold drought in the World Athletics Championships, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship in 40 years. He did the unpredictable by throwing a javelin of 88.17m on Sunday in the final of the Javelin throw event at WAC 2023.
