After being in the starting lineup for four of the five Tests against England, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj recently finished the arduous five-match series. His services are highly anticipated by the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the IPL 2024 draws near. The speedster appears to have prioritized his time with his family over the demanding two months of the T20 tournament, though. Siraj gave a tour of his Hyderabad neighbourhood and spoke with BCCI TV.
Siraj, who turned thirty today, was highlighted in a special edition of BCCI’s player segment. The public is aware of the modest beginnings of the right-arm pacer. Motivational in and of itself is the story of the son of an autorickshaw driver wearing the jersey of an Indian team. Siraj did, however, divulge the little-known details of his difficult times while working in the catering industry.
Mohammed Siraj gets candid:
Siraj revealed, “My first thought as soon as I land in Hyderabad is to go home and then to Eidgah. I never find peace the way I do here, no matter where I go. This is where I grew up, spent my early years, and now hang out with all of my friends. There is playtime, tea, laughter, and small talk. I considered giving myself an extra year in 2019–20. In a video that BCCI released, After that, I will quit the game for good.”
He further added, “I was employed in the catering industry once. My folks insisted that I go to school. However, I cherished my cricketing career. Back then, our family lived in a rented house, with Dad being the only one with a job. I had a job once. I was happy when I received between 100 and 200 rupees, even though I didn’t know much about it.”
The Indian pacer concluded saying, “At home, I used to give out 100–150 rupees, keeping 50 for myself. I had to flip the Rumali roti, which would burn my hands. However, that’s alright. I’ve overcome my fair share of obstacles to get here. And as a result of those struggles, I now have peace.”
The most sought-after bowler at the moment is the Hyderabadi pacer. Among aspiring cricket players, his performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final in Sri Lanka generated a lot of enthusiasm. One of his close friends reaffirmed how much of an inspiration he is to young people. Spend some time reading about Siraj’s journey from Tolichowki to the pinnacles of Indian cricket.
His friend said in the video, “For us, he is the same. He hasn’t changed at all and he treats us the same way, even though he became an Indian cricket player.”
Another friend added, “Watching him play for our nation makes us proud. He is such an inspiration to everyone here. Every child here aspires to be like Mohammed Siraj, har ek bacha bolta hai Mohammed Siraj banna hai.”
