LA Olympics: The sport of cricket has a history of creating some of the most memorable moments in sports. But because it lasted for five days, it was never able to secure a permanent location for the biggest sports gathering’s official medal event. But as time went on and the 20-over format appeared, modern cricket was born. Cricket, which has the shortest format, may return to The Olympics in 2028, when the competition is set to take place in Los Angeles, California.
It’s noteworthy that the last time cricket was played at the Olympics was in 1900 at the Olympics in Paris, where the British team won gold. Given that cricket is one of the most watched sporting events in the world, its return to this stage unquestionably represents a momentous milestone. Notably, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the top cricketing body, worked hard to get the game accepted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and to get it included in the Olympic Games.
LA Olympics on Cricket:
Greg Barclay, the chairman of the International Cricket Council, expressed his delight and called it a “significant landmark” in the long history of the sport. The ICC cited Barclay as stating, “We are thrilled that LA28 has suggested cricket be added to the Olympics. While this is not the final decision, it is a very significant milestone towards seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in more than a century.”
Barclay also expressed his gratitude to the LA28 organisation for their backing and confidence in the potential inclusion of the game for the occasion. “I’d like to thank LA28 for their support throughout the new sport evaluation process over the last two years, and we look forward to the final decision being taken at the IOC Session, in India, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week,” he continued.
The 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou will now feature cricket, and the Indian team, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, defeated Afghanistan to win the gold medal. So, this was all about the LA Olympics. Also read, Cricketer Rashid Khan to donate entire World Cup fees!
