The Indian squad defeated Bangladesh in the 17th match in Pune on Thursday, October 19, to extend their incredible run of form in the ODI World Cup 2023. It was their fourth straight victory at the esteemed competition. Virat Kohli’s century has garnered a special reaction on social media.
As the match went on, one of the most memorable moments was when superstar batsman Virat Kohli achieved yet another milestone by hitting a century. With 103* runs in 97 deliveries, the 34-year-old contributed to India’s seven-wicket victory.
But as he got closer to his century, Kohli stopped a lot of singles and held onto the strike, which allowed him to collect a tonne of runs. The 34-year-old received criticism for the same from both fans and detractors, but in the middle of the debate, former Indian cricket player Kris Srikkanth spoke up and supported the 34-year-old.
Kris on Virat Kohli’s century:
Srikkanth posted on X, asking, “What is wrong with what Virat did? I don’t understand those who don’t understand cricket. A century in a World Cup is a big achievement, and @imVkohli deserves this and much more! Bravo to @klrahul, a team player who earned it in Chennai against Australia! Savour the moment while it lasts #INDvsBAN.”
Earlier, during the post-match news conference, Virat Kohli expressed his gratitude for getting a couple of easy hits early in his innings. He got things going with the four and six from the two deliveries. “I’m sorry for stealing it (the player of the match award) from Jaddu, but I wanted to make a big contribution. I had a few fifty-score World Cup runs that I haven’t really converted. So, I wanted to see it through this time and remain in until the very end.”
The former captain of Team India talked about the atmosphere among the team. “The changing room has a great atmosphere. It’s evident to all that we get along well and that we enjoy each other’s company. To come out and play this style for the duration of the tournament, guys must be in the appropriate mental state in the locker room. Since 2011, Ash and I have enjoyed spending time together performing at home. We hope to continue this.”
