The Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) will see the much-anticipated return of legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni to the cricket field. On Friday, March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the tournament’s opening matchup between the Chennai Super Kings and their southern rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore will feature Captain Cool on the field.
The five-time champions have started prepping in their home stadium ahead of the season, and during the drills, Chennai’s beloved “Thala” was spotted in his retro avatar. Notably, Dhoni returned to his previous “long-haired” appearance before the season began and was spotted hitting bowlers for huge sixes during practice. As he gets ready for the new season, was seen smashing bowlers all over the ground in a now-viral video.
Dhoni gears for IPL 2024:

As they anxiously awaited Dhoni’s return, his fans were left wanting more from his practice video. The wicketkeeper-batter is batting with the utmost ease and smacking bowlers for massive hits at will, even after missing nine months of action.
Notably, with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the final, the Ranchi-born cricketer guided CSK to their record-tying fifth IPL title in 2023. With their victory, Dhoni and Rohit Sharma—who has also guided the Mumbai Indians to five IPL championships—joined as the league’s most successful captains.
Dhoni persevered despite a knee injury during the previous edition, electrifying the crowd each time he took the bat. With three fours and ten sixes, the 42-year-old looked at his all-time best, smashing 104 runs from 12 innings at a strike rate of 182.46 (his best in a single season).
If Dhoni does decide to hang up his boots after the upcoming season, he will look to carry on his good form and lead his team to a record-breaking sixth title to end his career on a high.
