IPL auction 2024: Gujarat Titans have made a name for themselves in the world’s biggest cricket league in just two seasons. As far as the league’s proceedings have been in the last two years, the 2022 champions have been synonymous with success. The Gujarat Titans won the title in their first attempt in 2022. They also put in a strong performance in 2023, finishing second. Chennai Super Kings defeated them in their own backyard in the final. However, it was a fun final.
Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, Sai Sudarshan, Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, Noor Ahmad, and Mohit Sharma all had excellent seasons for their respective teams. The tournament final proved to be an excellent one. However, some of the players were unable to perform well, and others were ineffective. Here are some players who might be released by GT before the 2024 IPL auctions.
IPL auction 2024 update:
3. Dasun Shanaka:
Dasun Shanaka has been an excellent batsman for Sri Lanka. With the bat, he has won matches for his team on numerous occasions. As a finisher, Shanaka is an excellent choice. Shanaka went unsold during the auctions in the 2023 IPL. However, after Kane Williamson was ruled out of the tournament, the Sri Lankan star player took his place.
Williamson would return to the team in 2024. Shanaka may no longer be a member of the team in that case. Shanka is not only skilled with the bat but also with the ball. In slower bowling conditions, his slow medium-pace bowling comes in handy. However, with Williamson returning to the side, Gujarat may release Shanaka in order to gain better playing options at the auctions.
2. Odean Smith:
Odean Smith was a big name in franchise cricket in late 2021 and early 2022. The West Indian all-rounder was known for his insane power-hitting at the time. Many regarded the talented all-rounder as the next Andre Russell, owing to his ability to easily clear the boundary ropes. Smith was selected by the Punjab Kings for the IPL 2022 season.
Odean had a poor season for the Kings. As a result, he was let go by the team for the 2023 season. Smith has not been in good form since then. He hasn’t been able to hit a home run with either the bat or the ball. He was selected by the Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2023 but did not play. The Titans may release him ahead of the IPL auctions in 2024 in order to acquire better options.
1. Yash Dayal:
Yash Dayal was one of the IPL 2022’s emerging players. The left-arm pacer’s performance in the tournament wowed everyone. Dayal was one of the best pacers in Gujarat Titans’ attack during the IPL 2022. However, in the IPL 2023, the batters figured Dayal out and he proved to be an expensive bowler. Everyone remembers the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Rinku Singh hit five sixes in a row against Dayal when 28 runs were needed in the last five balls.
Dayal was dropped from the team following the game. In Dayal’s absence, Mohit Sharma stepped up for the 2023 runners-up. Mohit had a fantastic season with the ball, outperforming Dayal. The youngster happened to take INR 3.2 crores from the side’s purse. With so many options in the 2024 season auction, the Titans may be forced to release Dayal.
