Glenn Maxwell gets candid on LSG player Mayank Yadav

With his sheer speed, one bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is setting new standards. During their most recent match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Glenn Maxwell and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru were in complete awe of the 21-year-old fast bowler Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Super Giants because of his intense bowling.

With his pace and accuracy, Yadav stunned the RCB hitters and took centre stage. After chasing a total of 181/5, the Royals were defeated by 28 runs after giving in to the young cricketer’s pace and being bundled out for 153 runs. Yadav finished with a record of 3/14 and earned the Player of the Match title, his second of the season in the following games as well.

Mayank claimed the lives of three people, including one of the best all-rounders in cricket history, Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, and Cameron Green. The young bowler’s sheer velocity took the Australian off guard, as he acknowledged.

Maxwell told ESPNcricinfo, “I felt it was really impressive. I definitely did some homework before facing him, and he hurried on a couple of the Punjab batters. However, until you see it coming out of the hand and have to try to pick up the length, doing homework against someone is nothing.”

He continued, “He has a significant amount of extra pace, which is uncommon in today’s global cricket matches. Guys bowl in the 140s [kph] range or above rather frequently. However, it is rather strong to constantly have mid-150s in your arsenal.”

When comparing Mayank’s speed to that of the great Shaun Tait during his heyday, Maxwell was unable to keep up with the pace and was ultimately defeated by it. He said, “His [Mayank’s] movement was so elegantly fluid; he almost seemed to glide through the crease. I believe that, in terms of pace, the only person I can somewhat compare it to is Shaun Tait at his prime.”

He bounced out Maxwell and castled Green with two deliveries that clocked in at over 150 kph, putting the RCB on the defensive. Yadav is one of the players who is currently in the spotlight due to his recent exploits, and a number of analysts and former cricketers have recommended that selectors include him in India’s squad for the June T20 World Cup.
