Sahal Abdul Samad, an Indian professional footballer was born on April 1, 1997. He competes in the Indian Super League (ISL) for Mohun Bagan SG and the Indian national team. Sahal Abdul is a midfielder. His Malayali parents, who were originally from Kerala in India, gave birth to him in the UAE city of Al Ain, where he also completed his 14 years of formal education. Sahal Abdul Samad: Early Life
A few months after Sahal Abdul began his degree, a coach at SN College in Kannur saw him and convinced him to switch. After performing well in university-level competitions, Sahal Abdul was selected for the district under-21 squad and subsequently, the Kerala team to compete in the Santosh trophy.
Before earning a bachelor’s degree from S. N. College, Sahal, who was born in 1997 in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), attended the New Indian Model School. In June 2020, he consented to serve as an ambassador for the German sportswear company Puma. In June 2020, Sahal donated the money he received from the sale of his jersey to the Kerala Chief Ministers Distress Relief Fund for COVID-19 Prevention.
In September 2022, he was chosen to represent India as the ambassador for the multinational energy drink company Predator Energy. Reza Farhath, a badminton player, was engaged to Sahal Abdul in June 2022, and the two later were married in July 2023.
Sahal Abdul Samad Club Career
After making his debut in the 2017 Santosh Trophy, young Indian football player Sahal was signed by Kerala Blasters to his first professional deal. With seven goals in 10 games, Sahal Abdul, the 2017–18 I–league 2nd division season’s captain, came in third place overall. Sahal was promoted to the senior team by manager René Meulensteen despite his difficulties with the senior squad.
Sahal made his league debut against Chennaiyin FC while playing in 17 games for the starting 11 during the 2018–19 season. With 688 touches and improved passing skills, he became one of the top Indian players in terms of crucial passes.
Despite the club’s dismal season, Sahal was selected as ISL Emerging Player of the Season and AIFF Emerging Player of the Year.
In the 2019–20 ISL season, he started the majority of games on the right side of the midfield, mostly as a winger and occasionally as a backup striker. Sahal took over as the club’s spokesperson when Sandesh Jhingan left and signed a contract until 2025.
During the 2021 summer transfer window, ATK Mohun Bagan offered three experienced players in exchange for Sahal, but Kerala Blasters turned down the offer. Sahal scored his first goal against Delhi FC on September 21, 2021, while playing for Kerala Blasters in the 2021 Durand Cup.
On November 19, Sahal Abdul Samad scored his second goal in a 4-2 loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. Sahal became the second Indian player, after Sunil Chhetri, to score in three successive Indian Super League games on December 26 when he scored his fourth goal of the season and third straight in a match against the football team of Jamshedpur.
Sahal is tied with Bipin Singh of Mumbai City for second place among Indian league goal scorers with six goals. Sahal Abdul Samad led the Blasters in scoring for the Indians this year. In June 2022, Kerala Blasters’ director of sports Karolis Skinkys said that Sahal’s potential temporary loan to Iceland’s top-tier league IBV Westmannaejar was under consideration.
The arrangement, however, failed as a result of difficulties with the visa and work permit.
Kerala Blasters, a football team, announced on July 14, 2023, that Sahal had been traded to Mohun Bagan SG in return for a player of unknown value. When Mohun Bagan signed Sahal to a five-year contract, it was one of the most costly signings in Indian football history.

Sahal Abdul Samad was initially considered for the Indian team that would compete in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, however, he was ultimately passed over. When he made his football debut against Curacao in a 3-1 loss in May 2019, he was selected for the team for the 2019 King’s Cup.
Sahal made his debut for India against Nepal on October 16, 2021, after being selected for the 23-man squad for the SAFF Championship in the Maldives in 2021. After a successful 2021–22 season, he was named to the team for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. On June 11, 2022, he scored his second goal for his country against Afghanistan’s football team.
In May 2023, Sahal was selected for the final 2023 Intercontinental Cup squad. Sahal started against Mongolia and scored the game’s opening goal in the second minute to assist India win 2-0.
