Having been born on October 3, 1981, former AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic celebrates his 42nd birthday today. Over the course of his 23-year football career, he played for nine different clubs. Following a string of injuries that kept him out of the game for an extended period of time, he eventually decided to end his career last year.
Ibrahimovic played his first minutes for Swedish club Malmo in 1996, making his professional debut. The tall teenage striker’s potential was recognised by Ajax, who paid a substantial sum of $8.8 million to acquire him in 1999. In his first Uefa Champions League match for the Dutch team in 2002, the striker proved to be a revelation.
The Swedish forward subsequently played for AC Milan and Juventus FC, two of the top Serie A teams. During his six-year tenure in Italy, he received various awards, gained notoriety, and set numerous records. When he scored 17 goals in 26 games in 2007, he was named “Serie A Footballer of the Year.”

With Xavi, Iniesta, and Lionel Messi at his side, he displayed some exquisite football during his time in Spain. He had a memorable season and won the Champions League in 2009.
The Swedish international returned to Italy in 2010 and joined AC Milan, remaining there through 2012. He was Milan’s standout player and enjoyed scoring goals while the team was at its best before losing momentum.
Later, in 2012, he joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he dominated the league while playing for the team’s new owners. While playing for the French club, the striker set scoring records and won trophies for fun. He later spent two years with Manchester United before moving to the MLS to showcase his incredible experiences there.
Ibrahimovic visited AC Milan one last time before departing, staying there for two years and revitalising the team. After a year of decline, he saw to it that the club once again won the Serie A championship. Check out the fan tweets on his birthday below.
