On Friday, September 22, the opening game of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia was held at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The Men in Blue put up an outstanding all-around performance to win by five wickets and get the series off to a good start. India beats Australia is currently trending on social media.
Speaking about the game, KL Rahul, the captain of the Indian squad for the first two games, chose to bowl first. The choice was sound. In the third pitch of the inning, Mohammed Shami retired the risky batter Mitchell Marsh.
However, David Warner and Steve Smith made excellent use of their collective expertise to put together a stunning 94-run partnership for the second wicket. By striking Warner for 52 runs in the 19th over, India’s top all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made the crucial breakthrough. Smith returned as well after scoring 41 runs in Shami’s 22nd over.

However, none of the next batters were able to turn their strong beginnings into big innings. The Kangaroos were limited to a total of 276 runs. In the end, Josh Inglis and captain Pat Cummins showed off some big smashes, but those were insufficient for them to surpass the 300-run threshold. With a spectacular five-wicket haul, Shami shone.
Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad of India gave the squad a strong start as they chased the target by putting up a huge 142-run stand for the first wicket. Gaikwad left the game after scoring 71 runs, including 10 fours, while Gill scored 74 runs, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Shreyas Iyer batted third and was out after only three runs. However, Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning partnership of 80 runs for the fifth wicket, which enabled the team to win the first game of the series, already had the stage set for the successful chase.
The Mohali curse has been broken, India's first win over Australia at this venue since 1996.
