Team India is preparing for ‘Super 4’ action in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, as they face Pakistan on September 10. Then, on September 12, they will face Sri Lanka, and on September 15, they will face Bangladesh. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, made a strong recovery in the second game against Nepal after his failure against the Men in Green.
Gill scored 10 runs off 32 balls in their tournament opener against Pakistan, while he hammered 67* runs off 62 balls against Nepal. Gill also stitched an undefeated partnership of 147* runs with Rohit Sharma. Fans will be hoping that he can maintain this form in the following matches. He was also rewarded for this knock, as he is now the number three batsman in ODIs.
According to the most recent Apex Council of Cricket report, Gill is now ranked third with a 750 rating. Rassie van der Dussen of South Africa is in second place with a 777 rating. With an ODI rating of 882, Pakistan captain Babar Azam is the top-ranked batter in the world. Apart from Gill, Team India has only one batter in the top ten, and that is Virat Kohli. He is ranked tenth with a rating of 695.
Shubman Gill bags the new no.3 batter:
Gill expressed his disappointment with the way he got out the day before yesterday after scoring an undefeated 67* runs against Nepal. He said, “It was critical that I finished it tonight with Rohit bhai, and we accomplished it. He likes to take the bowlers on aerials, and I prefer boundaries to sixes, so we complement each other.” Gill has played 29 one-day internationals and scored 1514 runs, including seven fifties and four centuries. In this format, he has a double century (208 vs. New Zealand in Hyderabad).
For the unversed, the 2023 Asia Cup is the 16th edition of the men’s Asia Cup, with matches played as One Day Internationals, and will be hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Six teams are competing in the competition. It will take place from August 30 to September 17, 2023. The reigning champions are Sri Lanka.
