A new fast-bowling star has emerged for Indian cricket fans in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Against the Punjab Kings, right-arm bowler Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Super Giants bowled the fastest ball of the season. In the opening ball of his second over, the 21-year-old LSG player Mayank Yadav bowled at 155.8 KPH to Shikhar Dhawan.

On Saturday, Mayank Yadav received his IPL debut cap from seasoned player Krunal Pandya. The pundits appeared genuinely interested in watching the young player bowl before he could even start.

In the past few years, the Indian Premier League has created a number of sensations. Umran Malik made an immediate impression on everyone by moving quickly. He bowled the fastest ball by an Indian bowler in the IPL 2022 season, with a pace of 157 KPH.

Mayank Yadav, who was born in New Delhi on June 17, 2002, is currently 21 years old. In 2022, the rookie took just one wicket in his Ranji Trophy debut against Baroda.

He has a far better record in the white ball format, having taken 34 wickets at a best of 4/47 from 17 List A games. He has taken 12 wickets at an economy rate of 6.44 runs per over in 10 outings in the T20 format. There were many whispers about his abilities within the domestic cricket community. In front of a crowded house, Mayank Yadav made his IPL debut on Saturday, and it was an unforgettable first performance.

Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan were determined to put the LSG bowlers to the test. In the tenth over of the innings, Nicolas Pooran gave the young player the ball, and he gave up 10 runs. The fact that Mayank Yadav reached 150 km/h in the third ball of the over was the main talking point of the over.

Exceptional fast bowler:

The right-arm pacer created history in the second over, hitting 155.8 KPH. This ball surpassed Nandre Burger’s 153 KPH bowl to become the fastest of the IPL 2024 season. Not only is this the fifth-fastest ball in league history, but the young player has accomplished a tremendous feat.

When he dismissed Jitesh Sharma for six in his final over, the young man gave it everything he had. Yadav set hearts aflutter with his final over, delivering the ball at 153.4, 153.9, 148.6, 151.9, and 148 KPH. If he keeps up this pace, Mayank Yadav will soon be a global topic of conversation.

In a post-match interview, Yadav talked about his thrilling debut and how his initial nerves dissipated following his opening blow. He said he was surprised by how well his debut went because he had anticipated feeling more anxious.

“I never imagined that my debut would be as successful as it was. Everyone has told me that I’m anxious, but when I bowled the first ball, my anxiety subsided. I was advised by everyone to bowl on the stumps and at a fast pace.” After Saturday’s game at Ekana Stadium, Mayank Yadav made a statement.

The rookie pacer credited Nicholas Pooran, his captain, for mentoring him and telling him to play to his strengths and use his pace to overwhelm the Punjab batsmen. “At first, I thought that I would need to bowl a lot more slower balls but after the wicket assisted me, my captain told me to only bowl fast,” Mayank said.

Seasoned hitters such as Jonny Bairstow found it difficult to settle into a rhythm against Mayank’s unrelenting barrage. When asked about his most memorable moment, Mayank named Bairstow’s wicket as his favourite, demonstrating his capacity to have a significant effect at the greatest level.

“My first wicket, which was of Jonny Bairstow, was my favourite. I had remained true to my dream of making my stage debut at an early age. However, that was untrue. But I’m pleased with how I performed tonight,” Mayank said.

The dream debut:

Yadav’s many years of hard work paid off with his dream debut. At the press conference following the game, Mayank stated, “I had been visualizing my debut, How my first ball would be, and how I’d manage myself with the ball in front of such huge crowds for the last year and a half.”

Yadav, who routinely hits the ball at above 145 kmph, lost 10 wickets in his opening over, but he struck again in his second over, taking the dangerous Bairstow for 42 runs. He made history by getting rid of Prabhsimran Singh in his third over, helping Punjab fall from 102/0 to 128/2.

After taking Jitesh Sharma’s wicket to reduce Punjab to 139/3, Yadav’s explosive session came to an end. Even though Liam Livingstone gave Punjab some hope, Yadav’s consistent strikes had established LSG as the clear winner.

“I enjoy speed in both life and cricket. Whether it be a rocket, jet, or superbike. I adore speed, so,” he continued.

The young debutant was thrilled with his ideal debut. “To be honest, I didn’t feel the strain or anxiety that everyone warned me would be there. I instantly felt like I belonged and there was a lot of confidence when my captain handed me the ball,” he remarked.

He remarked in reference to the coaching staff’s assistance, “JL (Justin Langer) and Morne (Morkel) never told me to work with anything. They are aware of my good pace when working hard distances. All they said to me was to target the stumps as much as possible, bowl quickly on hard lengths, and keep my plans simple.”

Mayank’s explosive effort, which included three significant wickets, was key in preventing Punjab from chasing 200 runs and earning a victory for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG’s victory has moved them up to fifth place in the league standings, with two points from two games.
