Cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan slams racist trolls

Racist comments were recently made about former Indian Cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan on social media. But the former spin bowler handled the issue with poise and resolve, responding forcefully enough to silence the troll.

Sivaramakrishnan posted a photo to the social media platform X (previously Twitter) from a temple event in Mahalingapuram, Tamil Nadu. The former cricket player was accompanied by an elephant in the picture. Sadly, a racist comment was made by someone who said, “Hii sir, that elephant is more visible in the night than you.”

Sivaramakrishnan made the decision to address the racist remark head-on rather than to ignore it. In response, he said, “Yes, I am dark.” With the comments, “It’s a temple festival and you people are so cheap” and “Thumuru baap angreerez Hoga” (implying the troll’s ancestors were British colonists), he then angrily denounced the user’s imprudent behaviour.

Cricket fans praised Sivaramakrishnan for taking a stand against racism and showed their vast support for his robust response. His unambiguous acceptance of his skin tone and self-respect was a motivating example of how to respond to such circumstances with grace.

Sivaramakrishnan had already expressed his displeasure with the treatment he had received from fellow cricket player Ravichandran Ashwin before this most recent incident. Sivaramakrishnan expressed his dissatisfaction on social media, revealing that Ashwin disregarded his attempts to congratulate him on reaching the 100th Test milestone, underscoring the disrespect exhibited to the former player.

Throughout the course of his nine Tests and sixteen One-Day Internationals, Sivaramakrishnan claimed 26 and 15 wickets, respectively, in international cricket. His greatest bowling average in ODIs was 3/35, while it was 6/64 in Tests.

On December 24, 1983, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan played his first Test match for India in Ahmedabad, India, against the West Indies. He was one of the youngest players to make his Indian Test match debut at the age of 17 years and 118 days at the time.

Sivaramakrishnan played nine Test matches for India during his brief international career, which spanned from 1983 to 1986. With a reputation for being versatile, this leg-spinner got off to a great start in his career, claiming 26 wickets at an average of 30.73.
