Kevin Sinclair, a West Indian all-rounder, took Usman Khawaja’s wicket to take the show. Alick Athanaze completed the catch after Sinclair, bowling from round the wicket, got Khawaja to edge the ball.
This was the Guyana player’s first wicket in a Test match, and he ran to his teammates. The incredible backflip performed by Kevin Sinclair came next. Kevin Sinclair’s acrobatics astounded both the West Indian players and the fans.
Kevin Sinclair was the final man out as West Indies ended the day at 266/8 after being bowled out for 311. With 79 runs, Joshua Da Silva led all scorers, followed by Kavem Hodge with 71. The visitors were 64/5 at one point before Da Silva and Hodge put on 149 runs for the sixth wicket.
Mitchell Starc was the top bowler for the Australians, claiming four wickets. On Thursday, the seasoned bowler amassed more than 350 Test wickets in his bowling spell. Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon split the two wickets between them.
When Kemar Roach teamed up with Alzarri Joseph to cut Australia to 54/5, he was in a fiery state. Steve Smith was out for six, extending his opening-day woes. Travis Head was out for a first-ball duck and Marnus Labuschagne was out for three. Mitchell Marsh was sent back after scoring 21, while Cameron Green could only manage an 8.
Before being dismissed for 65, Alex Carey started to attack and together he and Khawaja added 96 runs for the sixth wicket. Pat Cummins frustrated the Caribbean by scoring another half-century in a Test match, keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Australia was 289/9 at the time of writing, still 22 runs behind.
