Cricket is one of the world’s most popular sports. It has gained a large following in Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan over the last three decades. Its popularity among children and teenagers is also unprecedented, as they are devoted fans of the sport. We bring you the list of ace cricketers and their cartoon lookalikes.
Surprisingly, in addition to cricket, a large majority of children and teenagers watch cartoon shows. Children frequently compare their favourite cartoon characters to cricketers they admire. Keeping this in mind, let us compare some famous cricketers and characters who have some similarities.
Ace cricketers as cartoon characters:
1. Kieron Pollard- Gian:
Kieron Pollard was well-known for his outstanding all-round performance in international cricket. During his 15-year stint with the West Indies team, he amassed 1569 runs and 42 wickets in 101 T20 Internationals (T20Is), with a strike rate of 135.14. With these figures, he is the Windies’ fourth-leading run-getter in the shortest format of cricket.
In white-ball cricket, Pollard was known for his aggressive batting style. He played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2010 to 2022, winning many games for the franchise with his fierce batting style. Pollard is known for his fiery temper, in addition to his formidable batting ability.
He had an infamous fight with Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who was playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the time, during the 2014 IPL season. Pollard was about to throw his bat at Starc during a heated argument. Observing the Trinidad-born cricketer’s rage, one can draw parallels with Gian, a pivotal character in the popular cartoon show “Doraemon.” Gian, like Pollard, is known for dominating those around him.
2. Yuzvendra Chahal- Jerry:
Yuzvendra Chahal’s leg-break bowling is known for putting pressure on batters. Over the course of his seven-year international career, the star India player has taken over 200 wickets in 152 matches. He is also a well-known name in the cash-rich IPL.
The 33-year-old finished the 2022 league season as the leading wicket-taker, with 27 scalps in 17 matches at an economy of 7.75. Chahal is also known for his outgoing personality. The spin wizard can be seen having amusing moments with his teammates and even with umpires on occasion.
Kids can draw parallels between Chahal and Jerry, a cartoon character from the Tom and Jerry cartoon show, based on his vivacity. The well-known cartoon character is known for being friends with friends and having a mischievous demeanour.
3. Mitchell Marsh- Johnny Bravo:
Mitchell Marsh’s all-round ability makes him an important member of the Australian cricket team. The Australian team has won a lot of white-ball cricket games thanks to his exceptional skills. Marsh was instrumental in Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup victory in 2021, scoring 185 runs in five innings of six matches at a strike rate of 146.82.
Marsh’s muscular physique makes him one of today’s best power hitters. Pat Cummins has assigned Marsh to open with David Warner in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) due to his aggressive batting style. Marsh demonstrated his batting prowess in Australia’s ODI series victory in India in March 2023.
Marsh’s may be comparable to the well-known animated character Johnny Bravo. Bravo, like the 31-year-old Australian all-rounder, is brawny and full of confidence. The American animated series aired from July 14, 1997, to August 27, 2004, and the character of Bravo was voiced by the famous American voice actor Jeff Bennett.
4. Shubman Gill- Ben 10:
Shubman Gill has emerged as one of India’s greatest match-winners in recent years. With his exceptional batting performances as an opener, he has justified his place in the Indian team. In January 2023, the 24-year-old made history by scoring a double-century against New Zealand in an ODI in Hyderabad.
The youngster became the eighth batter in Men’s ODI cricket to hit a double hundred with his sensational knock against the Kiwis. In 2022, the talented opener became the fastest Indian batter to score 1000 ODI runs. He reached this incredible batting mark in only 19 innings.
Gill’s batting abilities have helped him gain a large number of fans, many of whom are children and teenagers. The young Indian veteran resembles the cartoon character Ben 10. On the one hand, Gill expects his superb batting potential to do wonders, while Ben 10 delights his viewers with his superpower abilities.
5. Jemimah Rodrigues- Julie Power:
Jemimah Rodrigues is a key member of the India Women’s team. The 23-year-old has played in over 100 international matches and scored 2383 runs. To keep her fans entertained, the young player creates witty content and posts it on social media. On her Instagram account, there are numerous reels in which she can be seen dancing and acting with well-known internet personalities. Jemimah Rodrigues’s acting style is reminiscent of the animated character Julie Power, a Marvel comics superpower. Julie, like Rodrigues, has the ability to step up and save the world in times of crisis.
6. Hardik Pandya- Inspector Chingum:
Hardik Pandya has established himself as one of Team India’s key players. The star player has won many white-ball cricket matches for the Indian team due to his all-round excellence. He is currently Team India’s vice-captain in the sport’s limited-over formats.
He could be seen leading the team in ODIs and T20Is in the future. Pandya has repeatedly demonstrated his ability with both the bat and the ball. Pandya assisted Player of the Match Virat Kohli to rescue India and win the 2022 T20 World Cup against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Pandya’s abilities are reminiscent of Inspector Chingum, a well-known character from the Indian 3D animated television series Inspector Chingum. The well-known cartoon character, like Pandya, is a perfectionist who does his job well. The inspector wants to make Shantiwood a “zero crime city.”
