Pakistan’s World Cup campaign in 2023 has been nothing short of a disaster. The tournament favourites have now lost four straight games and are on the verge of elimination. Their performance has been subpar in all three departments. Now, the cricketer Babar Azam messages got leaked on live TV.
Pakistan made a strong start to the tournament, winning their first two games against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. They have since been defeated by India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. Their batters have been unable to convert starts, which has cost them dearly.
Their bowlers, on the other hand, have been wildly inconsistent, with all three spinners proving ineffective on pitches that should have suited them perfectly. Pakistan’s destiny is no longer in their hands. They must win all three of their remaining matches, but a number of other outcomes must also go their way.
Cricketer Babar Azam in a new controversy:
The atmosphere around the Pakistan team has been toxic, and politics has played a role in their poor performance. According to Cricbuzz, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) does not want the team to win the World Cup so they can make drastic changes afterwards. “The board wants the team to fail, they don’t want us to win the World Cup just so that they can make the changes and take control of who leads the team and who gets into the tea.” A senior player was quoted to Cricbuzz.
A former Pakistan cricket captain recently claimed that the PCB’s chairman, Zaka Ashraf, and CEO have been ignoring Babar Azam’s messages. In a shocking turn of events, the PCB chairman has now leaked Babar Azam’s personal messages on live television. Salman Naseer, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, and Babar Azam’s WhatsApp conversation was broadcast live on television, raising serious ethical concerns.
Naseer asks Babar in the message if he has called Ashraf. Babar replied that he didn’t. “Hello, Salman bhai. Ma ny to sir koi call nai ke,” read the message. This saga is unlikely to come to an end here. It remains to be seen whether the cricketers will be able to weather the storm and resume their campaign.
