India faced New Zealand in the first semifinal of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India scored 397/4 in 50 overs in the high-octane match. Meanwhile, New Zealand fell short of the target after being bundled up for 327 runs. Cricketer Mohammad Shami has become a star and won over the internet.
In the high-scoring game, Indian pacer Mohammad Shami shone with his bowling performance. Shami took seven wickets in 9.3 overs while conceding 57 runs. This is the first time an Indian bowler has taken seven wickets in an ODI. With this, Shami changed the momentum of the game and helped India qualify for the finals.
Shami dismissed Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Tim Southee, and Lockie Ferguson in his seven wickets. Shami was named man of the match for the third time in the current tournament for his outstanding performance. He also became the fastest player in ODI World Cup history to take 50+ wickets. He broke Mitchell Starc’s record by doing so in only 17 innings.

The Prime Minister also praised Shami and Kohli for their outstanding performances and achievements. The bowling of @MdShami11 in this game, as well as throughout the World Cup, will be remembered by cricket fans for generations to come. Well played, Shami.”
Meanwhile, PM Modi congratulated Kohli on his 50th ODI century, saying, “Today, @imVkohli has not only scored his 50th ODI century but has also exemplified the spirit of excellence and perseverance that defines the best of sportsmanship. This incredible achievement is a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional talent. I want to express my heartfelt congratulations to him.
