The 100th Test of veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s career will be played when India plays England in the fifth Test starting on Thursday, March 7 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Notably, Ashwin is excited for his milestone Test and will be the fourteenth Indian player to reach the milestone. Now, R Ashwin remembered the Rajinikanth movie dialogue.
Since making his debut against the West Indies in 2011, Ashwin’s career has been filled with highs and lows as he overcame obstacles to improve as a cricket player over time. He recently shared the lessons he’s learned from life and mentioned a well-known Rajnikanth dialogue that completely altered the way he saw the world.
R Ashwin on Rajinikanth movie:
In a video released by BCCI, Ashwin stated, “I get a lot of my perspective on life and sports from movies. Rajni (Rajnikanth) utters the line, ‘When you know the death date, your living time becomes hell,’ in a particular film. We all know that we all have a marked death date, but we all live very happily, we want to live the moment, and we want to express ourselves because we all believe, we’re immortal for a very long time.”
He added, “However, as soon as you realize that it has a limited nature. You begin to defend that limited character. You don’t start living in that limited area, and I thought that was really profound. And after you’ve grasped it after you’ve had time to reflect on it. It kind of raises the bar even further by opening up a new cauldron for you. You see, you know, and I believe that’s how I was able to let go of a lot of my insecurities.”
While all of this is going on, the off-spinner is about to reach another significant milestone during his 100th Test match. He only needs to take five wickets in order to surpass Anil Kumble’s 35-wicket record and register the most fifers for India in the longest format. If Ashwin succeeds, he will tie Sir Richard Hadlee for third place in Test history with 36 fifers, behind only Shane Warne’s 37 and Muttiah Muralidaran’s 67.
