Virat Kohli rewrote history on Wednesday as he became the first batter to reach 50 ODI centuries & guided India to a spectacular 70-run win over New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023 first semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Virat’s 117-run knock helped India to post a mammoth total of 397 on board. And then in the second innings, Mohammed Shami did the job by returning with career-best figures of 7-57 to restrict Kiwis to 327.
Virat’s wife Anushka Sharma was there in Wankhede stands supporting her husband during this crucial match. Virat didn’t stay back as he too dedicated the glorious ton to his beloved wife. After the conclusion of the fixture, Anushka wrote an emotional post for hubby Virat Kohli on social media. Virat Kohli was on cloud 9 after surpassing Sachin Tendulakr’s record of most ODI centuries. Later in a post-match conference, Kohli said that it feels like a dream to him to achieve such a major accolade & he is trying his best to help the team win the Trophy ending the ICC Title drought.
After breaking Sachin’s record, Virat bowed to Tendulkar who was standing in the stands as well. After a string of low scores in 2011, 2015, and 2019 ODI World Cup knockout games, it was in 2023 that Virat bounced back in form & played a special knock in WC knockouts. Virat celebrated this precious moment with a huge jump despite the fear of cramps.
Virat said that it was a stuff of dreams with legendary player Sachin present in the stands. He further applauded Anushka by saying that the moment was more special for him as he achieved the feat in front of his life partner & his support system.
