‘Maidaan’, a sports drama directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and co-produced by Boney Kapoor and Zed Studios, pays homage to the heyday of Indian football. As the renowned coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who is regarded as the originator of Indian football, Ajay is portraying him. From 1950 until his passing in 1963, Syed Abdul Rahim led the Indian football team as manager and coach.
Rudranil Ghosh, a Bengali actor, Priyamani, and Gajraj Rao are also featured in the movie. The film set had to be dismantled by producer Boney Kapoor in 2020 because of the lockdown implemented to contain the new coronavirus pandemic. The Maidaan set was destroyed by Cyclone Tauktae in May 2021.
