After IPL 2024 opener, Dinesh Karthik drops retirement hint

Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), got the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) off to a great start by playing a brilliant innings of 38* (26) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season’s opening match. After 11.4 overs, Karthik came into the bat with the RCB at 78/5. He and Anuj Rawat (48 off 25) combined for a vital 95 runs, which lifted the team to 173/6 in the 20 overs that were allowed.

Notably, Karthik has participated in the IPL since its launch in 2008 and has established a reputation for himself with his incredible performances. When the first match of the IPL 2024 season concluded, Karthik was questioned about whether it was his final match at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The cricket player from Chennai retorted that assuming RCB makes the playoffs, the location will probably host those games as well. If that’s the case, it may be his final one.

Karthik stated, “What a wonderful question. I really hope that it’s not, as there could be a few Playoff games here. It might be my last if I return for that. In the press conference following the game. If not, I think it could be.”

Speaking ahead, the 38-year-old also discussed the difficulties he faced getting ready for the current Indian Premier League season and his experience providing commentary for England vs. India’s five-match Test series.

“Extremely difficult. It’s been really laborious to practice your cricket and provide some commentary in between Test matches and free time. It feels good to score some runs, and I’m glad that game one went well for me personally,” Karthik remarked.

Rachin Ravindra (37 off 15) and Shivam Dubey (34* off 28) both made significant contributions as Chennai managed to chase down the target of 174 in 18.4 overs, meaning that even Karthik’s knock could not save RCB from a loss. Consequently, CSK kept up their 16-year unbeaten streak against RCB in Chennai.

In 2007, Karthik and Nikita Vanjara exchanged vows. Due to their rocky marriage, Dinesh Karthik and Nikita separated in 2012. Afterwards, she wed Murali Vijay, a fellow cricket player who was teammates with Karthik. He participated in the dance-reality show Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina in 2008 alongside Nigaar Khan.

Karthik proposed to Indian squash player Dipika Pallikal in November 2013. They tied the knot in a customary Hindu and Christian ceremony in August 2015. The couple welcomed Kabir and Zian, twin boys, into their family on October 18, 2021.
