RCB player Cameron Green, an Australian all-rounder, revealed that he has had a chronic renal condition since he was a child. Green is not in Australia’s squad for the three-match Test series against Pakistan at home.
Green revealed to 7Cricket that he suffered from an asymptomatic renal condition. He explained, “My parents were told when I was born that I had chronic kidney disease, but there are no symptoms. It was picked up by the ultrasound.”
It’s worth noting that, according to Green’s father, Gary, doctors warned them that Cameron might not live past the age of twelve due to his condition. He further added, “At the time, it was uncharted territory as such; the prognosis wasn’t great. There were issues with his life expectancy, and he might not live past the age of 12.”
RCB player gets candid:
Nonetheless, Cameron Green has kept his medical condition largely hidden from the public during his cricket career. The only visible symptoms of the kidney problem were episodes of cramping during games. Green linked his cramps to his renal health after recalling a game in Cairns in September 2022.
Prior to the IPL 2024 retention deadline, the Australian all-rounder was forced to switch from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bangalore, which has recently put him in the spotlight. Green joined the Mumbai-based team last season after the Mumbai-based team paid INR 17.50 crore for his services during the IPL 2023 mini-auction.
It’s worth noting that MI and RCB engaged in a heated bidding war at the auction. One season later, the Australian left MI to join RCB. Green scored 452 runs at a strike rate of 50.22 in 16 IPL 2023 games.
Green also had two fifties and a century the previous season. The all-rounder with a quick bowling stroke also contributed with the ball in hand for the five-time champions, taking six wickets in 16 games. His ability to bat in multiple positions allows RCB to solidify their middle order.
Player Cameron Green history:
Cameron Green is a young prodigy who rose through the ranks of grade cricket and burst onto the domestic scene at the age of 17 with a 5-for on debut. The young fast bowler, a precocious talent, became the youngest bowler in Shield cricket history to take a five-wicket haul.
Green, who stands 6’6 feet tall, bowls a ‘heavy’ ball and isn’t afraid to do the grunt work. Add to that his exceptional batting ability and ability to float up and down the order, and it’s easy to see why he’s so highly regarded. Not to mention his fielding abilities, which he frequently employs to snare half-chances at gully and backward points.
Green’s junior career was marred by injury, and he had another scare during his second Sheffield game when he dislocated his knee during warm-ups. However, the physio at the stadium took care of it right away, and he was cleared to play again.
