IPL 2024: The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women’s team’s recent victory in the WPL final has renewed hope for the men’s team’s long-awaited IPL triumph. Legendary RCB player AB de Villiers is optimistic that 2024 will mark the end of his former team’s 16-year title drought.
Remaining as one of the three original IPL teams, RCB has finished as runners-up in 2009, 2011, and 2016. They haven’t won an IPL trophy despite having players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli over the years. But in the most recent edition, the women’s team of RCB, captained by Smriti Mandhana, triumphed over Delhi Capitals to win the WPL.
In response to RCB’s women’s victory, De Villiers stated that he is certain the men’s team will do the same this year. While acknowledging RCB’s past failings, De Villiers supported the legacy of the senior players to motivate the current group.
IPL 2024:

On the News18 program Rising Bharat Summit De Villiers stated, “It is destined. Now that the girls have pulled it off, the boys will be attending the celebration. I believe that this is the year because the chains are broken. For the guys, that is how it is supposed to be. They can and will win, in my opinion. See, you need to exercise patience. What a funny sport it is. It wouldn’t be interesting if it were predictable. After the men’s team of RCB wins one, they will win a lot more. Hopefully, we continue to grow.”
He continued, “With the exception of RCB, nine other teams with superstar status have not won the title. We have offered everything we have. We lost three times in the final, but we were very close. The legacy that the seniors have left over the last few years will endure. We had our opportunities here and there, and we are also to blame.”
The team captained by Faf du Plessis is presently in Chennai, where they will play the Chennai Super Kings in the tournament’s opening match on March 22.
