The Adelaide Strikers have secured a significant addition to their roster, with England’s Ollie Pope set to join the team for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. The 26-year-old batter and wicketkeeper, known for his dynamic style, marks the Strikers’ final pre-draft acquisition, bringing a blend of international experience and flair to the squad.
Pope, who is currently leading England against Sri Lanka in the absence of Ben Stokes, will be a key figure for the Strikers, joining forces with Ashes rivals Travis Head and Alex Carey. His presence in the team is expected to enhance the Strikers’ performance significantly. In his T20 career, Pope has scored 1,295 runs in 60 matches at an impressive strike rate of 132.82, with an average of 28.77. This level of consistency and skill is sure to be a valuable asset for the Strikers, complementing the talents of Matt Short and Chris Lynn.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Pope said, “Signing with the Adelaide Strikers is an incredible opportunity for me. I’ve been watching the Big Bash since I was a kid, and it’s always been a competition I’ve been eager to be a part of. Adelaide is such a fantastic city with a vibrant cricket culture, and the Adelaide Oval is one of the most iconic grounds in the world. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the passionate Strikers fans and being part of a team with such a strong reputation.”

Tim Paine, the newly appointed head coach of the Strikers and former Australian Test captain, expressed his delight at the signing. “Ollie Pope is an exceptional talent with a proven track record at the highest level,” Paine remarked. “His dynamic batting style and wicket-keeping abilities are a fantastic addition to our squad. We’re thrilled to have him on board and believe he will be a key player for us this season. His experience and leadership will undoubtedly elevate our team.”
Pope is expected to join the Strikers after completing his commitments with England’s Test tour of New Zealand in December. The BBL draft is scheduled for September 1, with the competition set to begin on December 15. Pope’s inclusion in the Strikers is anticipated to be a significant boost as the team prepares for another competitive season in the BBL.
