Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool: Preview
Nottingham Forest form analysis
It has been an up and down stretch for Nottingham Forest recently in the Premier League. After a battling 1-2 home loss to Arsenal on January 31st, Forest drew away at Bournemouth four days later by equalizing right before halftime through C. Hudson-Odoi. However, defensive issues persisted in their next match, falling 2-3 at home to Newcastle on February 10th despite twice equalizing as Bruno Guimarães secured the winner for Newcastle.
Forest produced an improved defensive performance in their next match on the 17th, beating West Ham 2-0 at home courtesy of goals from T. Awoniyi and C. Hudson-Odoi. But regression followed in their latest match, seeing the defense shredded again in a 2-4 home loss to Aston Villa on February 24th, unable to handle the Villa attack after equalizing twice early behind a M. Niakhaté header. Overall, Forest have struggled badly for defensive consistency and to hold leads when claiming them. Addressing the back line frailties will be vital towards turning results around in the fight to avoid relegation down the stretch run.
Liverpool form analysis
Liverpool had a good run in their recent Premier League campaign. After humbling Chelsea 4-1 on February 1st, a result not reflected by the dominance, Liverpool faced defeat away at title chasing Arsenal four days later but contributed to an exciting match with multiple lead changes before falling 3-1. They followed up constructively by beating struggling Burnley 3-1 on the 10th in workmanlike fashion.
Liverpool then tore apart Brentford on the 17th, winning 4-1 on the road behind goals from an in-form D. Núñez, Mohamed Salah and a C. Gakpo debut strike. Most recently on the 22nd, Liverpool bounced back well from an early concession to brush aside Luton Town 4-1. Overall, Liverpool finally seem to be hitting their stride with confidence restored. Balanced scoring contributions have powered the attack while tighter, organized defending has returned. Maintaining this sharp all around form could allow Liverpool to remarkably salvage a top four finish.
