UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has recently claimed that he can face off against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Although Aspinall respects the Brazilian fighter’s achievements, he believes he can defeat Pereira. “Poatan” has spoken about a potential move to the heavyweight division, so Aspinall is open to taking on the Brazilian.
Aspinall talked about a potential fight against Pereira
Tom Aspinall scored an astonishing victory against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. The English fighter knocked out his opponent in the first minute of the first round and also earned the reputation of having the shortest average fight time in UFC history.
Alex Pereira is on a rapid rise in the MMA world and has talked about moving up to the heavyweight division. “Poatan” has defended his title several times and doesn’t rule out the matchups in the heavyweight division against strong contenders.
Aspinall have a huge respect for Poatan
The current interim heavyweight champion has spoken about a potential fight against Alex Periera. He recently posted a video on his YouTube channel analyzing his fight against Curtis Blaydes. In the video, he also issued a message to Pereira and said, “Maybe see you sometime next year. I have a lot of respect for Alex Pereira, what he has done in the sport, especially in a short period of time. But if we are going to do it, it will be for the undisputed title, so see him there.”
Pereira wants to become a double champion
Initially, Alex Pereira was rumored to be facing Magomed Ankalaev for his next title defense. However, Ankalaev’s manager revealed that UFC had different plans for him. Since then, the MMA community has doubts about Pereira’s potential’s matchup against Tom Aspinall. Poatan has also claimed previously that he would fight either Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

As for Tom Aspinall, he is scheduled to face the winner of the Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic bout. Fans wanted to see the interim champion fight the undisputed champion. However, UFC President Dana White is adamant on “Bones” facing “The Silencer,” as he thinks that the two deserve this fight. Aspinall is also the backup fighter for the Jones vs. Miocic matchup. So for now, it seems that MMA fans will see a clash between Pereira and Aspinall next year. The Brazilian wants to become a double champion as he aims to capture the heavyweight title while successfully defending his light heavyweight title.
