Given our tight schedule this year, we have opted for five teams. While this may change in the future, our primary focus now is to organize a successful BPL with five teams within a one-month period,” he stated.
“We need to conclude the tournament by January, ensuring it wraps up before the upcoming World Cup in February. While we are open to the possibility of expanding to six or seven teams, we are currently comfortable with five teams for this year’s edition,” he added.
Iftikhar also mentioned that the Expression of Interest (EOI) for teams will be announced soon, inviting interested parties to participate in the league. However, there is a possibility that the reigning champions, Fortune Barishal, may not take part in the upcoming tournament. This decision comes after team captain Tamim Iqbal announced a boycott of all cricket activities under the current leadership, deeming it illegal.
Despite this, Iftikhar expressed hope that Fortune Barishal would reconsider and join the competition. “We welcome Fortune Barishal to participate in the BPL. They have managed their team well, and we have had no issues with them in the past. We value well-organized teams like theirs and would like to see them compete,” he said.
