The New Zealand Cricket Board has unveiled their lineup for the next ODI World Cup 2023, which will begin on October 5 in India. The news that star Blackcaps batter Kane Williamson would be returning to the team and serving as captain thrilled the crowd.
The team was unveiled in a rather original fashion on social media, with the identities of the players’ relatives—including spouses, kids, and parents—as well as their New Zealand cap numbers being made public. Fans of the heartfelt video lauded it as “incredible” and “most creative” on social media, where it soon gathered a sizable following.
Williamson’s knee injury is still healing, but the New Zealand think tank is still confident that he will be prepared for the World Cup by then. Tom Latham, Williamson’s deputy, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, and Mark Chapman at the plate will all be there to help. All-rounders include the seamer Jimmy Neesham and the spinners Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra.

Mitchell Santner is slated to lead the spin attack alongside Ish Sodhi. Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, and Lockie Ferguson’s pace attack still looks dangerous even without Adam Milne, who is out with a hamstring injury.
The tournament’s first game will take place on October 5 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo between the reigning champions England and the runner-up New Zealand. The Kiwis will look to open their competition with a victory and exact revenge for their defeat in the 2019 ODI World Cup final.
