New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson Declares Fitness for Crucial WTC Series Against South Africa
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has declared himself fit for the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa, a crucial part of the World Test Championship (WTC). The Black Caps, currently third in the WTC standings, see this series as an opportunity to gain significant ground.
While acknowledging the inexperience of the South African squad, featuring seven uncapped players, Williamson warns against complacency. “We are under no illusions,” he said. “They are all very good players, and we need to focus on our own game.”
New Zealand has never won a Test series against South Africa, but Williamson emphasizes playing their brand of cricket to secure crucial WTC points. The other thing, regardless of what has been said, the visiting South African side is quite young and inexperienced.
“Any win anywhere is crucial,” he stated, recognizing the challenges of the long-term Test championship format. “We need to connect as a group and focus on playing the cricket we want to play. That gives us the best chance to win.”

Following recent injury concerns, Williamson is eager to contribute in the upcoming matches. He missed the final leg of the T20I series against Pakistan due to a hamstring injury, raising concerns about a similar issue that sidelined him for six months in 2023.
However, Williamson assures he is now fully fit. “My hamstring is good, it’s progressed well,” he declared. “I’m feeling good and looking forward to rejoining the team.”
Williamson’s injury wasn’t the only worry for New Zealand. Kyle Jamieson is recovering from a lower back injury, while Tom Blundell is returning from a hamstring issue. However, Williamson allays concerns, stating, “I saw them looking well, and I think they’re fine. Injuries can vary, but I believe everyone is fit and ready.”
With their captain back in form and a determined team spirit, New Zealand looks poised for a strong showing against South Africa in the upcoming WTC series.
