In a thrilling contest, the Netherlands narrowly edged out the United States by just four runs in a Twenty20 International (T20I) match that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final ball. With the Netherlands setting a target of 133, the USA faltered in their chase, being bowled out for 128 in 19.1 overs.
Netherlands’ Innings was a Struggle for Momentum
The Dutch team struggled to find momentum throughout their innings, eventually posting 132 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings got off to a rocky start when Michael Levitt, who scored 8 runs off 10 balls, was dismissed by Jasdeep Singh, caught by Yasir Mohammad, with the score at 20-1 in just the second over.
Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd then tried to steady the ship. O’Dowd played an aggressive innings, scoring 27 off 22 balls, including four boundaries, but he too fell soon after, caught by Monank Patel off the bowling of Yasir Mohammad. Vikramjit Singh, who managed 14 off 10 balls, also fell victim to Monank Patel’s safe hands, this time off the bowling of van Schalkwyk.
From 43-2, the Netherlands’ innings seemed to stumble as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Captain Scott Edwards, who also took on wicketkeeping duties, was dismissed for 10 off 15 balls, becoming the first of three victims for Harmeet Singh, who bowled with exceptional control and accuracy, returning figures of 4-0-8-3.
The Dutch middle order crumbled, with Aryan Dutt getting run out for a duck and Zach Lion Cachet stumped by Andries Gous off Harmeet Singh’s bowling for just 6. Noah Croes and Kyle Klein also failed to provide significant resistance, scoring 2 and 16, respectively.

The only bright spot towards the end of the innings was Ryan Klein, who played a crucial unbeaten knock of 36 runs off 25 balls, including three fours and a six. His late surge helped the Netherlands reach 132, giving them something to defend on what appeared to be a challenging pitch.
USA’s Response Can be Summed Up as a Tale of Missed Opportunities
Chasing 133, the USA got off to a decent start but were soon pegged back by the Dutch bowlers. Captain Monank Patel, who scored 12 off 9 balls, looked in good touch before he was bowled by Kyle Klein with the score at 20-1 in the third over.
Saiteja Mukkamalla provided some impetus with a quick 24 off 16 balls, including three fours and a six. However, his dismissal, caught by Max O’Dowd off Doram’s bowling, triggered a mini-collapse for the Americans.
Andries Gous played a fighting innings, scoring 44 off 26 balls with three boundaries and three sixes, but his efforts were in vain as wickets tumbled around him.
Aryan Dutt was the pick of the Dutch bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 22 runs in his four overs. He was well supported by Doram, who took 2 for 30, and Kyle Klein, who chipped in with a wicket as well.
After Gous was trapped lbw by Lion Cachet, the USA’s lower order failed to provide any resistance. Nitish Kumar was bowled for a duck by Aryan Dutt, and Shayan Jahangir was dismissed for 3. Harmeet Singh, who had shone with the ball earlier, couldn’t replicate his form with the bat, managing just 6 runs before being caught by Noah Croes off Max O’Dowd.
With the pressure mounting, the USA’s tailenders tried to push towards the target, but Aryan Dutt and the Dutch bowlers held their nerve. Jasdeep Singh was run out by Zach Lion Cachet, and Yasir Mohammad was bowled by van Meekeren, sealing the Netherlands’ victory as the USA was bowled out for 128.
