Indian star athletic & Tokyo Olympics Gold Medalist, Neeraj Chopra made the country proud by qualifying for the Javelin event of the Paris Olympics 2024. The criteria to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024 Javelin event was set at 85.50m while the automatic qualifying mark for the ongoing World Athletics Championship (WAC) 2023 final was 83m. And Neeraj Chopra achieved both the qualifications with a huge throw in Budapest on Friday.
Neeraj Chopra featured in Group A of the Javelin Event at the World Athletics Championship (WAC) 2023. And without wasting any time he threw his javelin & on the first attempt itself achieved the mark of 88.77m. Just with a brilliant single throw he qualified for both Paris Olympics 2024 & WAC Final which will be played on Sunday.
What was the Qualification Criteria for the WAC 2023 Final in Budapest
The qualification criteria for the Final of the 19th edition of the World Athletics Championship, Men’s Javelin throw was set at 83.00 m. And India’s Neeraj Chopra who was the only Javelin Thrower from Group A did unbelievable by throwing a 88.77 mm long javelin & qualifying for both Paris Olympics & WAC 2023 Final.
After Neeraj, Germany’s Julian Weber came second with a massive throw of 82.39 while India’s DP Manu is currently in third place at 81.31m. All the javelin throwers who cleared the 83m mark & the 12 best finishers from both Group A & B will qualify for Sunday’s final. Around 12 players will play in the Javelin throw event in WAC 2023 Final on Sunday. India’s Kishore Jena and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem will be participating in Group B.

Notably, Neeraj Chopra has already won a Gold medal in the Javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics, Commonwealth Games & the Asia Games. He will now try to add another gold by winning the Javelin competition at the Paris Olympics 2024. The qualification criteria for the same is a throw of 85.50m the window for Qualification began on July 1. For the unversed, Tokyo Olympics champion Chopra has a personal best score of 89.94, which he achieved at the Stockholm Diamond League on June 30, 2022.
