NBA Rumors: Before the NBA Draught, the Wolves were in negotiations with clubs about dealing Karl-Anthony Towns, contrary to various reports. The Knicks’ pursuit of a big-name star continues, and Towns’ name has been mentioned as a possible target.
He’s a client of CAA, which was previously led by Knicks president Leon Rose, who previously handled KAT as an agent. Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Isaiah Hartenstein are all CAA clients and New York is seeking Donovan Mitchell, who is also signed with the agency. The whispers of Towns joining the Knicks seemed plausible. The Timberwolves, on the other hand, have set a high asking price for him, and the Knicks are uninterested. In response to these speculations, The Athletic’s Fred Katz wrote:
“According to league sources who have spoken with them, the Wolves have also set a lofty price for Towns. And, contrary to what the continual conjecture may lead you to believe, the Knicks have not indicated any interest in dealing for Towns.”
According to Katz, New York is being patient in its pursuit of a top player.
“They’re standing by. Patiently. For the right fit,” Katz wrote.
As a floor-spacing big man, Karl-Anthony Towns is an intriguing target. However, his defensive zeal may not be up to coach Tom Thibodeau’s standards. The Timberwolves have a high asking price as well, so the Knicks may not want to overspend for the former first-round pick’s services.
Towns has yet to prove his playoff-worthiness. He’s also under contract through 2028, with a salary of $58.6 million each year. This extension will go into effect at the beginning of the 2024-25 season. Overall, it does not look to be a cheap transaction for the Knicks, who could grab a more proven player for less money.
With their present core, the New York Knicks are in a strong position.
Instead, the Knicks focused on getting Jalen Brunson in order to fix their point guard issues. That was one of the best off-season decisions, as the Knicks went on to win the first round of the playoffs against Mitchell’s Cavaliers.
The New York Knicks have maintained stability with their core after reaching the conference semifinals. They’ve also made minor improvements, adding a great player like Donte DiVincenzo. With this combination, there’s little reason to doubt the Knicks’ reputation as perennial postseason challengers in a slightly weaker Eastern Conference. They have sufficient depth to match their system, which looks to be the best method for squad building in recent seasons. The New York Knicks might pursue other quality players on the market, like Joel Embiid and Zach LaVine, who are anticipated to depart their present teams.
