A great news has come for Melbourne Renegades fans. After signing Adam Zampa, the club has got its hands on Australian spin maestro Nathan Lyon. Lyon has recently signed a new three-year contract with the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL).
This deal not only solidifies his commitment to the Renegades but also keeps him in the game running which can be fruitful for the national test side.
Lyon, who unfortunately missed the final three Ashes Tests due to a serious calf injury, will be leaving his current team, the Sydney Sixers, to join his third BBL club. This move will also link him up with fellow Australian white-ball spinner Adam Zampa.
The signing of this contract ensures that Lyon, a 35-year-old Test great, will continue his stellar career for years to come. It also raises hopes of a return to England when the Australian team heads back there in 2027, it mostly depends on his fitness which he can do if he choses to play selected games.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Melbourne Renegades, Lyon said:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the Melbourne Renegades. (Marvel Stadium’s) a place where I enjoy bowling; it tends to spin a little bit. I’m looking forward to hopefully joining up with ‘Zamps’ in a really good partnership and putting on a show for the Renegades fans.”
Nathan Lyon Started His BBL Journey With Adelaide Strikers
Nathan Lyon began his BBL journey with Adelaide Strikers in 2011-12 season, and made his test debut same year in August against Sri Lanka. He was highest wicket taker in BBL in his debut season. Since then, he has played 38 BBL matches alongside his international duties. However, Lyon was let go by the Sixers, which opened up an opportunity for him to make a move to Melbourne.
The Renegades will kick off their campaign on December 8 against Lyon’s former team, the Sydney Sixers. It is unlikely that Lyon will feature in this match as it coincides with the first Test of the summer against Pakistan, which starts on December 14.
With Lyon’s signing, the Melbourne Renegades have secured a valuable asset who brings immense experience and skill to their spin bowling attack. The Gades eagerly await to see two of the best spinners in Cricket Australia, Adam Zampa and Nathon Lyon, performing together alongside MR captain Aaron Finch.
