MMA fighter Nate Diaz is currently gearing up for his highly anticipated boxing match against Jorge Masvidal at the Honda Center on July 6. The clash will be a rematch for their BMF title bout, where “Gamebred” scored the victory via doctor stoppage. Recently, in an interview, Diaz made a shocking revelation about his disappointing performance against Jake Paul last year.
After their boxing match, Jake Paul openly criticized Nate’s performance and called him the weakest puncher he ever faced. Recently, in an interview, “The Stockton Slugger” gave some surprising explanations for his disappointing performance and revealed that he was injured at the time and couldn’t really throw punches. Diaz further stated that he was the easiest and longest fight at the heaviest weight class he ever had. “Never got tired, never got hurt, Nothing,” he said.
Diaz reveals he was injured before the fight
Diaz dismissed his knockdown by saying that it was just due to poor timing and not Paul’s strength. He even stated that it didn’t hurt him and that he got up fine. “It was just a timing thing, you know. I thought he was pretty weak himself,” said Diaz.
Nate about his preparation for that fight
There have been several reports about Diaz’s injury during the boxing fight with Paul, with some stating a shoulder issue and others saying a pinched back nerve. Diaz has now also shared the details about his preparation for that fight, revealing he followed a less-than-ideal training regimen. He went on a four-week bender before the fight. Nate trained hard for months and then he was over it.
Reflecting his approach against Jake in the fight, Diaz said, “If it was a scary opponent, you wouldn’t allow yourself to do that.” He also questioned Paul’s criticism, stating that “The Problem Child” called him a weak puncher, but in reality, he was the one who wanted to go 30 pounds heavier than Diaz’s original weight division.
The Stockton Slugger is set to face Masvidal in California
Regarding his preparation for the upcoming Masvidal fight, Diaz is confident and much better than the last fight. He didn’t reveal his plans to return to MMA but shared his interest in a trilogy fight against Conor McGregor in MMA combat. Diaz’s fight with Jorge Masvidal is set to be held on July 6 in California.
