Former England cricket team captain and commentator Nasser Hussain has hailed Rohit Sharma as the “real hero” of the Indian cricket team, praising the captain’s fearless approach that has allowed the entire team to flourish without having much pressure to deal with in later part of the innnings.
“We have DK with us and he says that after that we were all there for the semi-final Adelaide where they played meek, timid cricket, plodded along in the T20 semi-final, got a below par score in England, knocked them off, none down, 1 by 10 wickets,” Hussain said.
“He said to DK, we’re going to have to change. A little bit like Morga. had to do all those years ago, we’re going to have to change. It’s one thing doing that, or saying that, it’s another thing going out and actually walking the walk. So I think the real hero today was Rohit in the first time they’ve been tested.”
Hussain added that Sharma’s positive tone from the get-go has put the opponent under immense pressure.
“The skipper went out there and showed everyone and showed his dressing room we’re going to carry on exactly the same way. You can see the confidence that flows through the whole team.”
Sharma’s fearless approach has been evident throughout the tournament. He has scored one century and two half-centuries and has led the team to victory in all 10 of their matches. The numbers might not portray exact picture but he really gives India the kind of start they need.
If Rohit Sharma stays there for 10-15 overs, you see India going past 110-115 runs mark which puts you so ahead in the game that the opposition is forced to play a catch-up game for the rest of the day. Such is the mindset of Rohit Sharma.
“Rohit Sharma is the genuine hero of this Indian side,” Hussain said. “He has changed the culture of this Indian side and has allowed the entire team to flourish.”

Even in the knockout game against New Zealand, it looked that he had no pressure on him regarding the magnitude of the event. Just a typical fearless approch and suddenly bowlers were under-pressure, instead of bowling to their strengths, Tim Southee and Trent Boult were trying to not get hit for the boundaries and that’s exactly a batting side wants, “a scared bowling attack.”
So far so good for India as captain fantastic has played some selfless cricket and allowed next inline batters to take their time and play for long part of the game without really being put under-pressure score-board pressure.
