Napoli vs Verona: Preview
Napoli form analysis
Napoli’s recent form has shown significant struggles offensively despite their early season attacking dominance. On December 24th, Napoli were soundly beaten 2-0 away by AS Roma in a match that highlighted scoring issues. Those problems surfaced again on December 29th as Napoli were contained in an underwhelming 0-0 draw at home against Monza. Napoli’s offensive woes intensified on January 7th away to Torino, suffering a shocking 3-0 defeat with zero shots on target.
Despite poor form, Napoli returned home on January 13th and were able to edge struggling Salernitana 2-1 thanks to a winner deep into second half stoppage time from Amir Rrahmani. Most recently on January 28th it was another dull attacking performance, held to a sterile 0-0 home draw by Lazio. While still boasting enviable attacking talent, Napoli clearly miss the creativity and chance production that moved the club atop Serie A in the past. Adding reinforcements in attacking midfield should be priority number one for Napoli as they push to regain form.
Verona form analysis
Verona’s recent form has highlighted an impressive fighting spirit but lingering issues defensively that undermine their competitiveness. On December 30th Verona fell 1-0 at home to relegation candidtates Salernitana, conceding late after struggling to create chances offensively. Defensive issues were evident again on January 6th away to Inter Milan, conceding a stoppage time winner in a narrow 2-1 defeat despite Thomas Henry’s equalizer.
However, Verona showed character to rebound four days later with a 2-1 home victory over Empoli thanks to goals from Milan Đurić and Christie Ngonge. Yet defensive fragilities resurfaced on January 20th in a 2-1 home loss against top four chasing Roma, conceding twice in six first half minutes. So while Verona has proven capable of impressive wins, individual errors and an inability to maintain concentration has consistently undermined their form. Cutting those defensive mistakes out could help Verona’s fight against relegation.
