Napoli vs Frosinone: Preview
Napoli form analysis
Previously unbeaten Napoli saw their winning run shockingly ended on November 12th as they fell 1-0 at home to struggling Empoli, conceding very late to Viktor Kovalenko. However, Napoli quickly responded on November 25th by defeating second-placed Atalanta 2-1 thanks to goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Elif Elmas to claim a huge statement victory. But Napoli then came crashing down to earth again on December 4th when they were thoroughly outplayed in a humbling 3-0 home defeat to Inter as a Hakan Çalhanoğlu strike and late goals from Nicolo Barella and Marcus Thuram saw the visitors cruise to victory.
Still reeling from that setback, Napoli traveled to rivals Juventus on December 9th and faced more frustration, falling 1-0 after Federico Gatti’s first half header. Needing to stop the rot, Napoli returned home on the 16th and edged a tight contest with Cagliari 2-1 thanks to Victor Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia to avoid a fourth straight defeat. While still top of the table, this spell showed that Napoli can be hurt defensively and knocked out of their free-flowing rhythm. Recovering consistency and defensive solidity will be critical for Napoli to hold off their title rivals going into the second half of the season.
Frosinone form analysis
Frosinone have found the step up to Serie A challenging in recent matches. On November 13th, they traveled to reigning champions Inter Milan and were comfortably beaten 2-0 thanks to first half goals from Federico Dimarco and Hakan Çalhanoğlu. Frosinone then hosted Genoa on November 26th and managed to eke out a dramatic 2-1 victory, with Matias Soulé striking early before allowing Ruslan Malinovskyi to equalize, only for Ignazio Monterisi to pop up with a stoppage time winner. However, Frosinone were brought back down on December 3rd with a humbling 3-1 defeat away to AC Milan, as strikes from Luka Jović, Christian Pulisic and Fiyako Tomori saw the Rossoneri coast despite Marco Brescianini’s late consolation.
Looking to bounce back, Frosinone returned home to face Torino on December 10th but had to settle for a goalless draw. Their struggles continued on December 16th, making the trip south to Lecce and establishing an early lead through Roberto Piccoli before seeing it slip away, falling 2-1 after conceding to Kaio Jorge’s penalty and Yevhenii Ramadani’s late strike. While capable of competing in spells, Frosinone must improve defensively and take more chances in attack if they are to avoid falling into a relegation scrap as the season progresses.
