Renaud Gaudeul, the public prosecutor for Nantes, stated, “During these events, in circumstances which remain to be determined, a 31-year-old man, a supporter of FC Nantes, collapsed and died on the spot, despite the rapid intervention of emergency services.”
The prosecutor clarified that the victim had sustained “a wound in the back, which could correspond to a bladed weapon” and that a “voluntary manslaughter” investigation had been launched.
A person with knowledge of the situation suggests that one of the car drivers may have stabbed the supporter.

Later that evening, the assailant brought himself in at a police station, according to a story in the daily Ouest France newspaper.
FC Nantes expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and said that they were “saddened” by the incident.
The club released a statement saying, “Numerous witness interviews are underway and will continue into the night. The club can only deplore that a person lost their life in such circumstances.”
In a social media statement expressing her condolences, French Minister of Sports Amelie Oudea-Castera stated that the investigation needed to “identify the exact circumstances of the events.”
Tensions and recent events on the sidelines of Ligue 1 matches are the context of the tragedy.
After Brest’s 3-1 victory in Montpellier a week ago, missiles were aimed at their bus, injuring two supporters of the team.
Coach Fabio Grosso had to get stitches for cuts on his face after Lyon’s team bus got stoned on the way to Marseille’s Velodrome stadium at the end of October.
The game was canceled shortly before it was scheduled to begin, with 60,000 spectators already present at the stadium due to the occurrences.
So, this was about the stabbing incident that took place during the League 1 game between Nantes and Nice.
