Former UFC Champion Conor McGregor’s patience seems to have run out because of a long period of inactivity in the UFC. The last time he stepped into the UFC octagon was in 2021 at UFC 264. “The Notorious” has been ruled out of action with a leg injury suffered in his third bout against rival Dustin Poirier. UFC President Dana White and multiple reports indicated that McGregor was set to return to the octagon again against Michael Chandler, with whom he coached The Ultimate Fighter season 31 earlier this year. However, the exact date of this anticipated match-up has not been revealed.
McGregor expressed his frustration
Despite a long list of potential opponents, McGregor has now expressed his frustration at the lack of communication from the UFC regarding a fight date. Recently, in an interview, the Irshman revealed that discussions with Saudi representatives have proven more fruitful than with the UFC. He said that the UFC guys are not talking, the guys here (Saudi) are talking a lot.
“The UFC aren’t talking, give me something, it should have been April, It was supposed to be December…no one in the history of fight game has ever been treated like I’m being treated. I’m waiting. My patience is running out.” said McGregor
The Irishman wants to compete early next year
Earlier this year, Conor McGregor expressed disappointment over the delay of his return to the UFC octagon and admitted that he would not participate at UFC 296 as he had initially expected. Meanwhile, Dana White had indicated that McGregor’s return would be postponed to 2024. On X, the “Mystic Mac” accepted the reality that he would not be fighting in December and displayed frustration at not being able to return. He hinted at potential hurdles with the Nevada Athletic Commission with expressing willingness to compete early in 2024.
McGregor faced major setbacks in his last two fights
The last time Conor McGregor was active in the UFC, he faced a challenging run with his fights and notable setbacks. His last two fights against Dustin Poirier ended in defeat, with a TKO stoppage at UFC 257 and then again with a TKO at UFC 264. The last victory McGregor scored was against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in January 2020, but before this, he suffered a huge defeat against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018.
