Musheer Khan ‘Naam toh suna hoga?’ Young, prolific fearless Musheer is creating headlines in the ongoing ICC U19 Men’s World Cup 2024 by registering back-to-back centuries. In India U19 team’s last fixture against New Zealand, they defeated the Kiwis by 214 runs. Thanks to Musheer’s stunning 131 run-knock along with Adarsh Singh’s 52 India reached a total of 295-8. Left-arm spinner Saumy Kumar Pandey (4/19) and pacer Raj Limbani (2/17) ripped apart New Zealand’s top order to bowl them out for a mere 81 in 28.1 over.
Interestingly Musheer not only played a stunning knock but made sure that he became the reason for India’s win by scoring a much-needed century for the team. During his stunning 131 runs knock Musheer delighted the crowd by playing MS Dhioni’s trademark Helicopter shot. In the 46th over of India’s innings at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, Musheer displayed his prowess by smashing a six by hitting Dhoni’s famous Helicopter shot.
Musheer achieved this remarkable feat after he became the second batter in Indian cricket to score multiple tons in a single U19 World Cup edition, following the footsteps of Shikhar Dhawan, who accomplished this with three centuries in 2004. The right-arm fast bowler, Mason Clarke delivered a slow delivery & the 18-year-old young boy played a powerpack swing shot propelling the ball beyond the deep wicket & hitting the stands. Musheer maintained a composed pose, savoring the moment.
Watch a glimpse of the Musheer helicopter shot:
On the batting-friendly pitch, Mangaung Musheer did the unexpected by breaching the 300-run mark & surpassing Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan with his sensational effort. Enrouting his 131, Musheer smashed 13 fours & three sixes in just 125 balls. He mixed caution with aggression to hit the 131-run mark. He had smashed huge shots along with running between the wickets when needed. However, he lost his wicket during the death overs when he tried to accelerate.
Musheer and Adarsh performed a fine recovery job with a 77-run stand for the second wicket after an early blow for India. After Musheer’s dismissal, Adarsh took charge of rebuilding India’s innings & also played a pull shot with Elan. However, he fell prey to Zac Cumming’s bowling getting bowled on 1-37. The disappointment was in store for India Captain Uday Saharan who failed to convert their innings and got dismissed for 35. He scored two fifties on the trot at the beginning of the tournament.
Saharan did a stunning job for his team by scoring 87 runs with Musheer which also happened to be the best stand for India in this match. Musheer’s ton & Adarsh’s contribution helped India to revive from early loss of wickets helping at 295-8.
