In order to prepare herself physically for the character of a cricket prodigy in her next film Ghoomer, Saiyami Kher has been participating in a variety of training. She has received training from former cricketer Murali Karthik to ensure that the cricket component is accurate.
Saiyami liked to work with left-handed batsmen and bowlers because she plays a left-handed cricket player in the movie. Murali Karthik was therefore the ideal person for her to learn the methods and specifics. Murali was a left-handed orthodox slow bowler who was renowned for his loopy trajectory and capacity for spin and bounce.
Saiyami stated, “I have played cricket since I was in school and am completely devoted to the sport. My right hand is my dominant hand in life, thus the challenge on Ghoomer was to practise and become a left-hander. I used to try playing the sport with both of my hands. Karthik was really considerate to step in, assisting me with my activity, and providing me with the crucial information and finer nuances. As a child, I always admired his traditional, basic action. So training with him was a lot of fun.”
Saiyami Kher for Ghoomer:
Former cricketer and Indian cricket analyst Murali Kartik played intermittently for the national squad between 2000 and 2007. Due to the presence of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh during his prime years, this slow left-arm orthodox specialist bowler—known for his loopy trajectory and ability to spin and bounce—was not chosen for international matches. He was also a left-handed batsman, and while scoring 21 half-centuries at the first-class level, he was unable to replicate this success at the international level.
R Balki is the writer and director of the film Ghoomer, which also features Shabana Azmi, Angad Bedi, and Abhishek Bachchan in significant parts. The novel, which was co-written by Rahul Sengupta and Rishi Virmani, is based on the true story of Karoly Takacs, a deceased right-handed shooter from Hungary who used his left hand to win two gold medals in the Olympics when his other hand was gravely damaged.
