Relief washed over Mumbai Indians fans as their team finally secured a win in the ongoing IPL season. The victory came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a thrilling chase, led by a magnificent century from Suryakumar Yadav.
Opting to bowl first, Mumbai Indians started well with the ball as some unfortunate event took place as debutant Anshul Kamboj dismissed Travis Head on a no-ball.
Hyderabad didn’t get motoring start as they did get it previous matches of this season but the start was decent enough to post 200 runs on board.
However, a middle-order collapse saw them lose five wickets for a handful of runs as Mumbai Indians bowlers staged an incredible comeback with the help of brilliant bowling from Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla.

Their dependable batsmen failed to deliver, with only skipper Pat Cummins (35 runs off 17 balls) offering some resistance. Marco Jansen provided a brief spark with some delightful boundaries, but ultimately, the onus fell on Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed, who couldn’t provide the required momentum.
Hyderabad slumped to 134/8, threatening a score below 150. However, a spirited cameo from Cummins ensured Hyderabad had a total they could potentially defend on a two paced Wankhede wicket.
The Mumbai chase began well, but Hyderabad bowlers tightened their lines, restricting them and picking up three quick wickets within 15 balls. This brought them back into the contest, with Mumbai struggling to score for a brief period.
Undisciplined bowling from Hyderabad, conceding 18 extras in the powerplay, helped Mumbai Indians regain control.
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma then stitched together a match-winning partnership of 145 runs. Yadav, in particular, was unstoppable, showcasing brilliance at the crease. He reached his maiden IPL century in just 51 balls, effectively ending Hyderabad’s hopes. Mumbai cruised to victory with 16 balls to spare.
This win, though coming late in the season, will provide a much-needed boost for Mumbai Indians’ morale. They will hope to build on this momentum in their remaining matches.
