Young Pakistani javelin thrower Muhammad Yasir is overjoyed after receiving a call from India’s Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra congratulating him on taking home a bronze at the Asian Athletics Championships. In an interview with Geo TV, Yassir said, “When he (Neeraj Chopra) called me and complimented my performance after I had won the bronze medal in the javelin event, it came as a nice surprise. He wished me luck for further activities.”
Yasir was reported by NNIS, stating, “It was fantastic to share the platform with a neighbor for the first time. Since we are from neighboring nations, there is some natural competition, which made us better. DP Manu didn’t make his finest throw until he was third. After receiving his bronze medal. It was more enjoyable that two of us were on the podium.”
Pakistan only won one medal, thanks to Yasir, whereas India won 27 medals overall, including six gold and twelve silver.
Arshad Nadeem, the best javelin thrower from Pakistan, was unable to compete in the competition owing to a persistent injury. Yasir claimed to pay close attention to Chopra’s performances and training regimens.
According to Yassir, “The ability to train with foreign coaches over an extended period at the greatest facilities in nations known for generating elite athletes is the only distinction between Pakistani and Indian athletes. Unfortunately, neither the necessary equipment nor international coaches are available in Pakistan. We must find a way to get by, which is another reason we should value Arshad Nadeem’s performances.”
When questioned about his flowing mane that resembles Neeraj Chopra’s, Yasir Muhammad responded, “Neeraj Chopra is my favorite; I take inspiration from him because he won the Olympic gold, a first for someone from this region of the world, but the hair is of my liking. Of course, Arshad Nadeem is my hero because he was the first person from South Asia to cross the 90-meter threshold.”
The Indian track and field team, meanwhile, finished third overall in the continental competition after an effective Asian Athletics Championships campaign that saw them win 27 medals.
