MS Dhoni, a former captain of India, continues to motivate the next generation of cricket players. Dhoni, who resigned from international cricket in August 2020 despite having accomplished nearly everything as a player and a skipper, is still approachable both on and off the pitch.
The 42-year-old has guided the side to three significant ICC victories and is perhaps India’s finest captain in history.
India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy under his leadership.
He captained India in 332 games overall, the most of any captain in international cricket history. He won 178 of them, lost 120, tied six, and 15 had no outcome. As a captain, he had a 53.61 winning %. He is now India’s most successful captain in history because of this and the trophies he has collected.
In these 332 games, he amassed 11,207 runs in 330 innings, batting with a strike rate of over 76 and an average of 46.89. As a captain, he recorded 11 centuries, 71 fifties, and a top score of 224. It’s safe to assume that MS was unaffected by the responsibility of leadership.
His accomplishments at the international level also affected franchise cricket. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he represented and captained the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Five IPL championships were won by Dhoni with CSK in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Additionally, he won two Champions League T20 championships in 2010 and 2014 with CSK.
