Jose Mourinho, the outspoken head coach of Fenerbahce, has been handed a one-match ban and fined by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) following his controversial post-match comments about Turkish soccer.
Fenerbahce Coach Mourinho Hit with Ban and Fine Following Rant

Mourinho’s fiery outburst, which included questioning the impartiality of match officials and making unsportsmanlike remarks towards opposing fans, has landed him in hot water.
The disciplinary board of the TFF fined Mourinho 900,000 Turkish lira ($26,200) for his comments about the league and match officials. Additionally, he received a 58,500 lira ($1,700) fine for his conduct towards fans.
The ban will prevent Mourinho from entering his team’s locker room and will be served during Fenerbahce’s match against Sivasspor on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Mourinho’s tirade came after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor, where his team scored a last-minute winner. The Portuguese coach, known for his passionate demeanor, ran onto the field in celebration and attempted a knee slide, only to fall face-first onto the grass.
Despite the win, Mourinho’s frustration with the officiating boiled over, leading to his controversial remarks.
In his post-match interview, Mourinho criticized the Turkish league, calling it “smelly” and questioning why international fans would watch it. He also stated that he wouldn’t have taken the job if club officials had been transparent about the league’s workings.
His comments have sparked a debate about the integrity of Turkish soccer and the role of referees in the league.
This isn’t the first time Mourinho has faced disciplinary action this season. He was previously given a one-match ban after receiving a red card in Fenerbahce’s Europa League match against Manchester United. Mourinho watched from the stands as his team lost 3-1 to AZ Alkmaar during that ban.
Mourinho, who joined Fenerbahce in June with the goal of returning the club to its former glory, has faced challenges in his first season. The club hasn’t won the league title since 2014 and currently trails archrival Galatasary by five points after 10 league games.
Despite the controversy, Mourinho remains determined to lead Fenerbahce to success. His fiery personality and strong leadership have been both a blessing and a curse for the team.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how Mourinho navigates the challenges and whether he can bring the club back to the top.
