Motherwell vs Ross County: Preview
Motherwell form analysis
A disappointing 2-0 home loss to Rangers kicked off Motherwell’s period, with Dowell and Cantwell impressing in a comfortable Glasgow win. However, a strong response followed, blowing away Livingston 3-1 despite Pittman briefly equalizing – a Bair brace complementing Spittal’s impressive opener. Building confidence, Motherwell then claimed a rousing 2-2 draw away at Hibernian in a ding-dong classic. Though surrendering control of game after Bair leveled then Mugabi put them ahead, gutsy spirit remained even after late equalizer denied them.
Motherwell’s momentum stalled however after squandering the lead during 1-1 home draw against St Johnstone, with Bair swiftly canceling out McGowan’s opener but failing to build on bright opening to victory. And points again slipped as Motherwell drew a blank in 1-1 against Kilmarnock last game – though Bair maintained his scoring streak equalizing Mayo’s shock opener, lethargic attacking play cost two further points. Motherwell must improve ruthlessness killing off games while leads grip early on is lost.
Ross County form analysis
Ross County’s season restarted with impressive spirit, twice taking the lead during entertaining 2-2 comeback draw away at Hearts. After Cochrane’s own goal and Dhanda strike overturned the deficit, only a late stretcher from Shankland denied them a statement result. However, momentum proved a false dawn as they were blown away 3-0 at home by Aberdeen in the next fixture, McGrath’s first half brace building a platform for Miovski to round off comfortable victory showing they can be outgunned. Their powerlessness resurfaced during narrow 1-0 defeat away to leaders Celtic, again failing to overcome conceding early this time to Johnston’s opener.
Despite then going ahead through Murray, familiar frailty allowed them to fall behind in 2-2 draw away at Livingston before claiming consolation point at least through late Mackay strike. And attacking struggles continued last game, losing 1-0 at home to St Johnstone as Mbunga-Kimpioka’s strike proved enough, summing up ongoing issues scoring when it matters. So while talented County have sporadically shown potential getting at teams, defensive issues and clinical edge going forward remain major problems for manager Derek Adams to solve.
